Direct Trade Mission to Canada

Apoexpa / Asopex was present together with other organizations in the trade mission to Canada, thanks to the help of INFO and FEDER.

After the signing of the free trade agreement between the European Union and Canada, the stone fruit sector and especially table grapes have taken up the possibility of exporting significantly mainly to the east coast of Canada.

In this commercial mission we visit points of sale where we check the quality of the product as well as the possibility of presenting products under the same conditions from our companies.

Among the entities and agencies with which working meetings were scheduled are the authorities of Ontario and Toronto; European representatives and officials in Canada to ensure compliance with the CETA and the Consulate of Spain; the Ontario Center of Excellence; the Chambers of Commerce; and the managers of strategic projects such as Quayside, Starup Here Toronto or Trade Accelerator Program.

Large chains in China and Vietnam are aware of the innovative production of Murcian table grapes that is already conquering the Asian market

The Region of Murcia has increased by almost 30%, in the first four months of the year, its volume of agri-food exports to China, exceeding 22 million euros.

Vietnam-China reverse trade mission

Large food chains from China and Vietnam visit the Region of Murcia to learn about the Murcian table grape production process and its quality, as well as the innovative potential of regional companies. The Autonomous Community, through the Development Institute (Info), has organized a reverse trade mission made up of 17 importers from these countries, specifically 13 from China and 4 from Vietnam, together with representatives of the Hanoi Ministry of Agriculture.

The acting Minister of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment, Javier Celdrán, who accompanied the commercial delegation of these two Asian countries to Moyca, pointed out that “we have already been working for three years so that the progressive opening of the Chinese market to products agri-food, through successive bilateral agreements, translate into business opportunities for companies in this sector, with the aim of also becoming the vegetable garden of Asia ”.

The members of the delegation were able to verify during the visit to the company the advances in the investigation of new varieties of table grapes, through the work of genetic improvement of the vine and varietal renewal. Producers in the Region, specifically, currently have the 14 registered apirena varieties, the so-called seedless grapes. The careful R&D work carried out has allowed us to offer a product that is highly appreciated in the Asian markets: crisp, with attractive berries, low cost of production, good cold storage and resistant to handling.

Celdrán underlined the importance of the work being carried out by the regional government to promote the presence of our agri-food companies in one of the most powerful markets in the world and pointed out that “we gather all the ingredients to win the battle against the Asian market against other possible competitors , since we have innovative, efficient and competitive companies, like this one we are visiting today; We have a quality product recognized internationally and we have infrastructures, such as the Madrid-Yiwu train, to reach this market with very competitive time frames and costs ”.

The trade mission is part of the Asia Plan launched by the Development Institute three years ago. In the planning for this year, three specific missions of the agri-food sector have been organized, such as attendance at the fair in the Chinese city of Yiwu ‘Commodities Fair’, ‘Asia Fruit Logistica’, the celebration of a direct commercial mission to China and Vietnam , and the training session held in May ‘Asian Markets: opportunities for fruit and vegetable companies in the Region of Murcia‘.

The Business Minister recalled that «the Asia Plan is being a success, since it has already managed to boost our exports to the Asian giant. Thus, for example, only in the first four months of this year, we have managed to increase the volume of exports to China of agri-food products by almost 30 percent compared to the same period in 2018, exceeding 22 million euros «and he stressed his conviction that «this inverse mission will further reinforce the promising expectations we have for expansion in what is today the world’s leading economy.»

As for Vietnam, exports from the agri-food sector reached 1.85 million euros last year, with an increase of 140 percent. A large part of these exports corresponds to canned vegetables (1.26 million euros), while those of fresh fruits and vegetables were around 600,000 euros. In total, the sales of the companies of the Region to this country were 9 million euros.

PARTICIPATION IN THE ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA 2019 FAIR

Attendance at the Asia Fruit Logistics Fair, the most important trade fair for the fruit and vegetable sector in Asia, held in Hong Kong from September 4 to 6, which is a key showcase for reaching distribution agreements both in China and throughout Asia and Oceania and that it has facilitated direct contact with importers.

The table grape has focused the attention of this fair on the stands of the Region of Murcia, within the pavilion organized by the ICEX.

Moyca Grapes, Frutas Esther, Frutas Torero, El Ciruelo, Frutas Maripi and Blancasol, six producing companies in the Region of Murcia integrated into APOEXPA will begin the export of Spanish table grapes to China.

The Murcian delegation has also had the assistance of AMC Group, Frutas del Guadalentín, Hortiberia, Agrícola Molca, Gruventa, Hispagroup and Soummy Fruits. This action has been organized by the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation of Cartagena and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Development Institute of the Region of Murcia.

Fruit Attraction 2019 will host the first meeting of the contact group of France-Italy-Spain and Portugal of Uva de Mesa

The heads of TABLE GRAPE of the Mixed Fruit and Vegetable Committee made up of France, Italy, Portugal and Spain and of the four administrations, headed in the case of Spain by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, will meet for the first time on 23rd of October in Ifema (Madrid), which hosts the Fruit Attraction 2019 fair that day.

The objective is to create a stable international dialogue and cooperation framework for this sector.

The Spanish table grape sector will be represented through the Association of Producers-Exporters of Fruits and Vegetables, Table Grapes and Other Agricultural Products of the Region of Murcia, APOEXPA, integrated in Fepex.

The constitution of the table grape group takes place at a time when there is a “growth in the production of apirena grape, (without seed), especially in Spain and Italy, as well as a growing interest in it from the demand European.

Currently, Spain is the leading European producer of Apirena table grapes and most of the area is located in Murcia, which has 3,000 hectares.

Spain: Murcian grapes are already in the big cities of Vietnam

The three hundred people between the diplomatic corps and Spanish residents who attended the reception at the Spanish embassy in Hanoi on the occasion of Hispanic Heritage Day were presented with a basket of Murcian grapes as a scoop of fruit from Spain in that country.

Apoexpa celebrates the «Fruit Party»

On October 23, in the framework of the Mau Mau nightclub in Madrid, we celebrated «Fruit Party», an event organized by APOEXPA and the collaboration of the INFO of the Region of Murcia where the promotion of our European and non-EU clients in the promotion and sale of Murcian table fruit and grapes.

The winners were the South African company Star South Fruits Ltd (the director Nicolis Cilliers received the award), the Nordic company Coop Trading (the manager Anders Lind received the award) and the Vietnamese company Fruits and Greens Co (received the award on CEO Vo Huy Hoang)

Likewise, the invaluable collaboration of Jaime García-Legaz, former Secretary of State for Commerce and the INFO of the Region of Murcia in their invaluable work in opening new markets was recognized.

The event was attended by more than 250 people, including APOEXPA members, buyers and diplomatic personnel, and was chaired by the President of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Dº Fernando López Miras.

This new packaging is characterized by being antimicrobial, antioxidant and ethylene absorbing and allows to extend the shelf life of fresh products by 30%, reducing waste and improving food safety.

The Ambassador of Taiwan visits Murcia

Vietnam has welcomed the Table Grape

Vietnam has welcomed the table grapes produced in the region and has also opened its market to new Murcian products such as wine. Since September 2019 the grape trade with Vietnam was opened, the Region has exported a total of 140,000 kilos. It is not a trivial figure: it represents almost the total of table grape exports from Spain to Vietnam, specifically, 77% worth 340,000 euros. And it’s just the beginning.

A new market in which entrepreneurs can export and do business. Proof of this has been the visit this week to several companies in the Region of the Vietnamese ambassador in Spain, Ngo Tien Dung, and the meeting he held with the Company Counselor, the President of Apoexpa, Joaquín Gómez, and with representatives of eight companies from the Region that are already exporting to Vietnam or that are interested in doing so at an early date.

These companies are Moyca, El Ciruelo, Frutas Torero, Uniland, Frutas Esther and Aromais, within the agri-food sector, Hidroconta, a leading company in the production of agricultural technology, and the winery Bodegas Carchelo.

The Company Counselor pointed out that “with the introduction of new markets in Asian countries, we hope to exceed the export figures and somehow counteract the negative effect that Brexit has had on fresh produce exports. Faced with this threat, the opening of new markets in Asia or Africa is our priority to guarantee that the region’s exports continue to grow ”.

Thanks to the trade missions organized by the Institute for the Promotion of table grapes in the Region, excellent results have been obtained, such as reaching 140 tons exported in just one month.
